The below information will give an overview of how the weekly Matchplay sessions at LSTC run. It also provides players and parents with an idea of the minimum criteria that players need to meet in order to take part in the session. Our Matchplay session is the perfect opportunity for our LSTC players to practice their match play skills in a lower pressure environment. Players within our Performance, Academy or Futures programme are encouraged to take part in our Matchplay session.
Please Note: All players MUST be invited to join the Matchplay first before being able to book into the course. Fees are paid in advance and are heavily subsidised by LSTC and DRH Sports in order to encourage our intermediate and advanced players to start and practice competing in a low stress environment.
Timings:
Players will need to arrive no less than 10 minutes before their age group begins in order to warm up and be fully ready to start playing matches at the start. Players who arrive late may miss the first rotation of matches unless the coach can easily integrate them.
How Matchplay runs:
Matchplay is designed to be a good opportunity for intermediate and advanced LSTC players. The session is coach lead however the coach will primarily be an organiser. Players will be given the opportunity to play as many games as possible within the timeframe. The scoring format will depend on the number of players that attend each session. This could range from conditioned points, to tie breaks to games and full sets.
Tactical themes may be integrated into the session depending on the needs of the players and upon the direction of the Performance Co-ordinator or Tennis Manager. These themes will be designed to assist the development of the players that attend the session.
Criteria for joining:
From the Spring term 2024, players will only be able to join the Matchplay session if they meet the following criteria and are invited to join:

Fees:
Matchplay block booking fees are more than 60% subsidised by LSTC and DRH Sports in order to encourage intermediate and advanced players to develop their match play skills in a relaxed, low stress environment.
